Recently obtaining my learners licence, I quickly realised how isolated motorcycle riding can be. There are some days where this is exactly what I need. But most of the time solo rides are, well, just plain boring. Some days, I don’t want to be left with my own thoughts and considering we’ve spent many months social distancing or in quarantine (thanks COVID), solo motorcycle rides are the exact opposite of what I crave.

So, why join a motorcycle group? It’s a simple answer and one that is deeply rooted in our most primal human instincts – COMMUNITY. As much as you want to believe you are an individual who does not rely on outside human connections to survive, sorry but I am here to tell you that you’re wrong. Facts are facts – our health and wellbeing both physical and mental, relies on us connecting with others.

Don’t be mistaken, I’m not claiming that motorcycle groups are the ONLY community you can be a part of. There are so many groups to join and connections to be made. But connections begin with mutual interests and given Australian motorcycle sales improved by 51.6% in recent months, that’s a lot of people with a shared interest.

Social connections are vital to living a happy and healthy life. Motorcycle groups can offer support, connection, community and a bit of fun! The best part is there are so many to choose from making this community one of the most dynamic in the world. From niche clubs focussing on specific makes and models to general “get together and shit talk” groups, stunt riding groups, motorcycle maintenance groups - there are plenty to choose from!

Writers note: Bet you didn’t think the answer was going to be this deep and meaningful did you?...
