ORGANIC VS SINTERED BRAKE PADS: HOW DO YOU CHOOSE?

MetalGear Brake pads have been developed in different compounds giving you a choice for your own riding style and braking preference. All MetalGear Brake Pads are tested to ensure perfect harmony with MetalGear Brake Discs.

For road riders there are two popular options: Organic or Sintered brake pads

ORGANIC BRAKE PADS

Organic pads are suitable for the “daily commuter”. They are a softer pad suitable for cruiser models and A to B commuters. Some riders choose organic pads because they are a low cost however you should keep in mind that the softer compound of organic pads will not perform as well or as long in conditions where the rider is braking aggressively. If you find you are chewing through organic pads fairly quick, it is probably best to upgrade to a sintered pad.

MetalGear recommends organic brake pads for:

• A to B commuting on road
• Low to high CC road bikes in easy braking conditions
• On Road dirt bikes
• Easy paddock riding in dry conditions

SINTERED BRAKE PADS

Sintered Pads are the crowd favourite. The sintering process involves fusing together metallic particles using heat and pressure to create a compound that is highly resistant to friction. For riders who are heavier on the brakes, this offers better performance and initial bite in overall conditions. Something to keep in mind is that some sinter compounds are quite aggressive and can be a little harsh on your brake disc resulting in faster wear.

True to its sintered form, MetalGear’s own Premium Sintered Brake Pads are formulated to suit a wide variety of motorcycles that need direct and controlled performance, especially in demanding environments. Sintered brake pads will handle higher operating temperatures and perform in dry, wet, sandy and muddy conditions. Sintered brake pads are suitable for:

• Mid to High CC street motorcycles
• Cruisers and Adventure riding
• MX and Enduro
• ATV and agricultural applications

SINTERED S2 BRAKE PADS

We've tested various blends of friction material in different conditions and are proud to release the next generation of MetalGear's sintered brake pad. S2 Sintered brake pads boast increased braking performance, reduced brake fade and longer life on the street or dirt. We've developed our formula to improve power delivery with a more linear and progressive brake feel. Suitable for:

• Mid to High CC Street Motorcycles
• Cruisers and Adventure Riding
• MX and Enduro
• ATV and agricultural applications

When choosing a brake pad compound, it is also important to remember what your bike was fitted with initially and what your brake disc is designed to work with. There have been cases where people replace OEM sintered pads with organic or vice versa and find the performance has deteriorated. Taking into account OEM setup and your riding style will assist you in deciding which pad to choose.
